Read Across America
by Brenda Beachler
Millions of children across America celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2, 2007. The children of Central School took part in many activities during the week to honor Dr. Seuss and to celebrate Read Across America.
Guest readers from the community included Mayor Gene Mueller, Fred Helmink, Vickie Banahan, Dr. Jeff Johnson, Michele Holliday, Shelly Hamm, and Doug Klaumann. The children were excited to listen to them read some familiar Dr. Seuss stories.
We enjoyed a lunch of "green eggs and ham" while we watched the movie of the same name. Yum! Yum!
The "Cat in the Hat" paid a visit to each classroom to give a book to each child at Central School. The children were also presented a book that was given because of a donation from the pancake feed from the evening of March 1. The Kiwanis Club sponsored a pancake feed with the cost of admission buying a book for each child. There were over 200 people who attended the special event. Thanks Kiwanis Club!
We hope to continue Dr. Seuss's love of reading every day! Plan to take part in the festivities next year!
Take a look at some of the great pictures of this year's event!
