Happy Birthday Kouper!

August 17, 2007

Mrs. Dux's Podcast

The students must have had a pretty good day yesterday because they all returned again today! I could tell it was going to be hot since they were warm already at 8:20 as they walked into the building.

When the bell rang, I collected the homework from yesterday. I am anxious to read the letters that the students wrote to me. After that, I collected all of the parent homework which consisted of forms, forms, and more forms. I want to thank the parents for getting them back to me so quickly.

Marissa Signs Her Name

The Pledge of Allegiance followed with all of the students signing the Pledge. One of my goals this year is to teach sign language to the students, so this is a start. After that, Marissa was the first to finger spell her first name and each one followed. They are doing a great job. It took me a lot longer to learn the alphabet, but my students are learning to sign so fast! For homework, they have to finger spell their first and last names and say their name as they do it. It is trickier than it sounds.

Kouper is another year older! Hesitantly he walked to the front of the room while the students sang “Happy Birthday.” Ronnie took our picture with the digital camera. He did a great job having never taken a digital picture before!

Train Switcharoo was the next activity. Jordan was so excited to show the class how she solved the “thinking activity.” Many of the other students worked to solve the puzzle, and were rewarded with m&ms.

Personality Spheres

Our personality spheres from yesterday needed to be finished. This project took a long time, but they turned out pretty cool. Each student’s is so unique. They will present them to the class on Monday.

Before we knew it, the bell rang loudly telling us that it was time for lunch and recess, and after the rib bites were gone and recess was over, Chris and Grayson handed out the rest of the books. I know everyone is anxious to get started, but we will not switch classes until Monday.

At 1:30 the students were ready for music. Mr. Zrust, the new music teacher, was waiting by the door giving each student a high five as they entered the room. They came back with smiles on their faces, so I knew they had a great class.

Even though it was hot outside, we went outdoors for a short recess. We don’t have recess very often, so it was a treat to run and play for a short time

The bell rang at 3:20. I couldn't believe the day was over already. Another great day of learning had passed, and we were ready for a little time with family. I interviewed the students and asked them the question, “What was your favorite thing about the first two days of school?” This was their reply. (You will have to listen to our podcast to hear the reply.) The verdict is in…Recess wins again. Just wait kids…The best is yet to come.
