Sometimes people just have to use some smiles and colors to brighten up their day. Well today was one of those days because I was roving reporter. But it started out ok at first because it was the old usual procedure. Upon walking in the classroom, Mrs. Dux told us to empty our book bags. We then got started on doing the pledge and signing the lunch count. When I was told I was roving reporter, I knew the day was going to change.
As we headed into science, Mrs. Hudson handed out our dinosaur pictures from yesterday. We had to color the picture and write a short paragraph about what their life might be like or what they did during the day. Before we were even in our seats, Mrs. Hudson called out, getting everyone’s attention that we still had to time to finish coloring. While some worked on coloring, one person would read their story aloud for the class to hear. By the time everyone was done, it was time to head off to reading.
I, with a few others, stayed in Mrs. Hudson’s class. As soon as we got into the room, Mrs. Hudson called out to get our workbooks out and go to page 51. We checked that one first and did some problems on the board. We also checked page 47 and did some of that in class too. We did fluency reading with a partner and read for a half an hour. The walls of the hall seemed to be closing in as we all rushed back to our own classrooms to begin the next subject.
I reached in my desk and grabbed my spelling workbook because it was spelling time, and we had to check some of our papers from yesterday. That went by so fast that before I knew it we where already into signing. We learned the words ghost, Halloween, horror, and fear. We practiced those a little, and before we knew it, we were in the hall ready to eat. It was time for lunch.
Lunch seemed to become the favorite of a lot of people after we got our new tables this year. Each has its own individual stool or seat. We all hurried through the lunch line grabbing our fish sandwich, cantaloupe, and tater tots. We scarfed the food down our throats before we ran outside from the teachers, or homework givers, and that scary place people call school. Well it’s not that bad when you have cool teachers.
We all ran inside gathering our things noticing Mrs. Dux ready to take us off to math. We started off with a 2 minute multiplication sheet. We graded that and our assignment right away. We all groaned as we waited for the assignment to be handed out to us. We were learning about solving subtraction and addition equations. Mrs. McAllister gave us time to work on it a little in class.
For P.E. we jumped our way to class, but on our way over, we ran into a little rain. So that no one would get hurt, for warm up we just power walked for 4 minutes. While we finished up our stretches, Mrs. Seibolt told us to get a jump rope and start to practice on jumping. Since everyone was warmed up, we had a contest. Whoever kept jumping the longest, won. Amber won one, Tyler won one, and I won one.
Mrs. Dux had us finish a movie in social studies, “The Prince of Egypt.” In order to get a little practice we took a little pretest like in spelling, only this was in social studies over chapter 3 to see what we knew. We had clickers, and we broke into 3 teams. The Tigers won, but it was a close game and now we know a little about what we are going to be learning in chapter 3. We did the same thing with vocabulary only it was all a review.
Until our teacher told us there was a P.T.A. program, we all started digging in our desks for our writing materials. The program was called Ned which stands for, N never give up, E encourage others, and D do your best. The program was about how to become a champion and that if you follow the rules of NED you will become a champion at what ever you do. Mr. Tim, the guy in charge of it all, said that when you start something you will never be good at the very beginning. Mr. Tim gave out yo-yos for us to practice with.
By the time we got back, it was time to leave. We said our long and sad goodbyes to Mrs. Dux because she wasn’t going to be here tomorrow. We packed our bags and we headed out the door. I’d brightened up my day with some colors and some smiles even from roving reporter. What can you do with your day?
