I am on location at Jefferson Intermediate School in Fairbury, Nebraska with sixth grade news. I’m here to put you in the shoes of a sixth grader. I’ll walk around in these shoes and give you an update on what a regular day of school is for these sixth graders.
We started out by saying the Pledge of Allegiance but in sign
language, just like always. In science class we found out the
volume, mass and density of an object. My group found the density
of a clear, plastic, little box and it was 2.44 hundredths unit
centimeter. Plus we did L to J, a vocabulary quiz. But wait, what
is this? The teacher seems to be handing out some kind of paper.
HOMEWORK! The homework was a worksheet about liquids, solids,
gases, and molecules.
We headed off for reading where we read the story, Juan Verdades.
It was about a man who couldn’t tell a lie. Plus for a special
treat, a reporter from the Lincoln Journal Star came to interview
me and some of my classmates about Roving Reporter because he was
going to do an article on it. For Example; he asked me what our
procedure was for doing the Roving Reporter.
For spelling we paired up and signed to each other all of our spelling words.
My stomach was grumbling, so we were off to lunch. The nachos were magic in my mouth because I was starving! After out magnificent lunch we played football, and the girls won 12 to 0. Go figure!
For music we put down some ground rules for the keyboards. Then we played like monkeys on the keyboards. In P.E. we did something that isn’t as easy as it sounds, left-handed lay-ups which were very difficult.
Finally we read China’s Past in our social studies books. There is information on China’s dynasties, stories, and beliefs.
It was a sprinkle of heaven on earth because study hall had finally come. Everybody was as busy as Santa’s elves on Christmas Eve.
So there you have it folks. Now you have solved the mystery of what really goes on in sixth grade. For now you know walking in sixth grader’s shoes isn’t as easy as it sounds. Until next time, this is Jordan Johnson reporting from Jefferson Intermediate, sixth grade news.
