We hurried to get inside because we were freezing our fingers off. I could tell that everyone was mad we had school today and not another snow day. We only had a two hours late start instead of a full day off. The Sing Around Nebraska students were practicing their songs while everybody else was getting to school.
Starting the day in class, students marked what they wanted to eat for lunch. Just before the hustling and bustling started for the day, we said the Pledge of Allegiance. Next the students were in a rush trying to get their books ready for science.
As we headed off to science, the lunch lady came to pick up the envelope. Our science teacher, Mrs. Hudson, told us to turn to page E14 while she was handing out the paper shoes we made along time ago. After she was done handing them back, Zach and Ronnie read about spring scales. Everybody weighed something that they had brought from home that would cling to the hook. Amber handed out our assignment after we were done weighing our items. It was two pages for the full lesson.
Following science we had to go to lunch. Nobody wanted to eat because we had pretty much just gotten to school. Somewhere in all the traffic the students heard the bell that told us to go eat some burritos. We had burrito with chili or pepperoni sandwich. Recess was inside today because of the ice and snow. It sounded like a herd of elephants stomping around the room.
Mrs. Dux told us to sit in our seats so she could take attendance, as we were getting ready for math. During math, Mrs. McAllister told us to get out our five-questions from Monday out. We didn’t have to check our assignment today. She said to hand them in numerically (actually A B C order, but we were in math so she calls it numerically). We turned to page 335 and talked about bar graphs and line graphs. We had an assignment, but she said it would only take us like two minutes. Mrs. Dux popped in and said that she would like to have like ten more minutes with Mrs. McAllister’s class. Actually, it lasted a half hour instead of ten minutes. In the extra half hour, we had we made a 3 dimensional Christmas tree. Students thought at first that it would be a kindergarten project but after we started into it everyone changed their mind and enjoyed the project.
Our class had P.E. next. During P.E. Ms. Seibolt had us go to our home base. She told us to warm-up with walking five laps instead of running because our shoes were wet. Today we were able to choose which activity we wanted to do. We choose from either around the world or knockout.
After everybody was hot and sweaty from P.E. (which Mrs. Dux had thanked her so much for doing that to us) we had to go to social studies. We viewed everyone’s dragons that we made on Monday. We watched a movie about China. Once the movie was over she gave us a packet of homework that was about the movie.
After social studies everyone groaned because we had art. They wanted to go outside to go sledding or have a snowball fight. It seemed like everyone was in a fantasy world just thinking about it. Poor Mrs. Dux was really just talking to a wall. But once Mrs. Dux got our attention, she told us some things that we could make for gifts for friends or relatives. One was a candy cane candleholder. Another was a stocking that you could hang up on a hook or a door.
In study hall everyone tried to get all the homework they had from today done. They were trying to get their stockings finished also. At 2:30 the trumpet players went to band. Then at 2:55 the baritone players went to band.
Even though the fake fireplace in Mrs. Dux’s room had warmed us up, everyone lined up and ran outside to go play in the snow when the bell rang that school was over for the day.
Off to do my Roving reporter and maybe some snowballs at my brother???
