Celebrating Friends!
by Chris Schweer
It may be very cold outside, but the Kindergarten children have warm hearts and have been learning about how to be a good friend. We have read stories, watched and discussed the Berenstain Bears, "Trouble With Friends" movie and made pictures of our friends. The children decided that sharing, being nice to others, helping each other and taking turns all were ways to be a good friend. We also have been learning that friends come in all shapes and sizes. Friends can come from different cultures and backgrounds. As we celebrated diversity week at school the children were introduced to multicultural games in P.E., sang multicultural songs in music, listened to multicultural stories in library and were treated to a demonstration of African dance by Rebecca Hamata and Irish dancing by Sandy Reikofski. It has been fun to explore and learn this valuable lesson that we may look different on the outside, but we are all the same on the inside!
