Today I’m roving reporter and I was thinking, “What does Roving Reporter do and mean?” Roving means to move around, wander, or roam. Reporter is someone who gathers information about a day or event. So my conclusion was that I’m a reporter for my classroom. I will roam around and write down everything I did for you to hear.

The students walked from the cold, cold, air into their classroom. We already knew recess was definitely going to be inside. It was around 10-15 degrees. But that didn’t matter any more because we were inside in the nice warm air. I grabbed the camera and graphic organizer since I was reporter. Our G.O. (graphic organizer) helps us keep track about every thing we did today. The G.O. has the list of all the classes with lines below it. Using the lines you write down everything you did in that class as you carry it from class to class. We also signed the lunch count and said the Pledge of Allegiance.

As we walked into the classroom, Mrs. Hudson told us to get out our assignment from yesterday out. Yesterday our assignment was on vocabulary. Some of our words were kinetic energy, potential energy, and heat. Kinetic energy is the energy of a moving object. Potential energy is the energy stored in an object and heat is energy that flows between objects that have different temperatures. Next we headed to the computer lab. We were going to be taking a Nebraska state standard. The standard was on the chapter we are doing right now, and since our yesterday’s assignment was on vocabulary, we already had our brains thinking science, vocabulary, energy as we headed down to the lab. As soon as we came back, it seemed like it had been an hour, but Mrs. Hudson found a way to still have 15 minutes. So she gave us today’s assignment. It was a dot to dot worksheet. We had to color it and then tell what type of heat energy is making the object move, (radiation, conduction, or convection) and explain why.

Our reading class got to thinking about reading because that is what we were going to do. We were going to be finish reading the story “A Single Shard.” Mrs. Hudson told us to get our work book out just right after we finished the story. We started out with a web. A web helps you plain something out or write out what the story was about. We had 5 bubbles and were to fill them up with characters and their characteristics or events from the story. Our workbook was a lot of work for us today because as soon as we where done with that page, we did 4 other pages in the workbook. One of them had to do with homophones. Homophones are words that are spelled the same but have a different meaning. For example: sea and see. This type of sea is a body of water. This type of see is to be able to have a view of something.

“Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle.” Those words filled the room and didn’t leave till the end of spelling time. Sparkle is a game that helps us review our words. Some of our words were, design, office, and nation. The students make a circle around the room. The teacher then chooses someone to start the first word. The teacher gives the class one of the spelling words. For example: nation. The student the teacher has chosen will then start to spell the word. The student would say N. If the student didn’t say N then she/he would be out. The students then continue spelling the word in the circle. Then the next student would say N to start the word again. As soon as the class is done spelling the word nation the person after the last letter of the word would say, “Sparkle” telling everyone that the word is over. If the student says sparkle too soon or to late then he/she is out. After the student says sparkle in the correct spot, the student must tell the definition of the word. If he/she says the correct definition, the next person in the circle is out. If he/she says the wrong definition, then he/she is out. The teacher then gives the class a new word.

We turned off our brains just for a little while and headed to lunch. It was a very good lunch today. Pizza stuffers, strawberries, bananas, a fortune cookie, banana bread, and cheesy broccoli were to fill our tummies today. As we guessed, recess was inside. Some people did their homework, others visited with friends, and others played games. But in all everyone seemed to be happy.

Checking worksheets seemed to be very popular because that is the very first thing we did. We are working with multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. Mrs. Mac chose people to go get white boards for people in our group. On the white board we worked more with multiplying. As soon as Mrs. Mac thought we understood it and had it memorized, she gave it to us again because guess what our assignment for today was on. If you said, “Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers”, you guessed right.

It was time to turn our singing voices on as we walked into music. Today we just looked at what our play is going to be. It was our first time looking at it or hearing about it so it was all new to us. It was called Rock! Our play isn’t until April 3rd so today we just got to listen to it on a C.D. We learned some of the songs and some of the parts. The play was a musical. A musical is a type of play that involves mostly singing and not much talking.

Instead of Ms. Seibolt taking us to the armory, she kept us in our class room. Mrs. Polman was going to talk to us about smoking and tobacco. She started out with telling us that tobacco companies shouldn’t be allowed to advertise to little kids. Many minors die from smoking every year. A minor is someone who is smoking under the age of 18, which is illegal. She also talked to us about that even if it isn’t supposed to go to little kids, it isn’t true. When the advertisements say it makes you cool, clean, and fresh, they aren’t telling you the truth.

This was about one of the first subjects where we didn’t check a paper mostly because we didn’t have an assignment yesterday, which meant no grade. Most people were happier than usual. We played a game called Let’s Bet. It’s supposed to help you get a good picture of what our next chapter is going to be about. We learned that Ancient Greece was known for there pottery, still today Greece holds the Olympics, and that the Athenians where the first to make a true democracy. It was good to get a good picture of what we where going to be doing and learning about.

So as study hall came around, we all did our things and went where we were supposed to go. Some headed off to band and others started in the class room to work on their work. Me, I roamed around and gathered my information on my G.O. I wrote it all down and now I’m recording it on a piece of paper for you to read. So, please enjoy!!
