1st and 6th Grade Adjectives

Huh, another Monday, and the worst day of the week. When I came into the classroom I knew I had a job because I was Roving Reporter. Boy was I excited. After everyone was done reading their AR books, Mrs. Dux read the Peril of the Peppermints.

When we went to science class, Mrs. Hudson handed out book orders. Then we turned to E68 in our science books. We learned about pressure in tires. If you apply too much heat to a tire, the tire will blow up. Mrs. Hudson had a story about these guys who had a house on their trailer; the chimney was two inches higher than the clearance of the bridge and they didn’t know whether to cut off the top of the chimney or cut into the bridge. So then a kid comes up to them and says “Why don’t you just let some air out of the tires? Then you can get under the bridge.” Then Mrs. Hudson said “Those mathematical geniuses can’t figure out everything.” Sometimes you just have to ask a kid.

When we went to reading we revisited our test. We had to do some of the grammar that we hadn’t done on Friday. Then we worked on our time consuming vodcast. We taped the P J (Paige and Jordan) Advice Column.

It was spelling time and we practiced our sign language books. Soon we will have to present them to our class. Next we took our spelling unit test with clickers. Most of us were done in a flash.

During our delicious lunch, most kids had a burrito. We ate as fast as we could so we could get out to recess quicker. Finally it was time for recess. What we could do if only our brief recess only lasted longer.

In math we started with the dreaded two minute timing. After that we had an exciting L to J test. Our first assignment was a monotonous review worksheet covering multiplying and dividing mixed numbers and fractions.

It was time for our exciting writing class; Mrs. Dux went to check our self-describing A to F adjective paragraphs. Then we were assigned H and I. Last but not least, we started our A to Z posters. We are comparing 1st and 6th grade adjective use, or lack thereof.

When we went to the library we worked on our book reports. I read “The Winter Room” by Gary Paulsen for my report. Next was music and we sang our songs for the program we will have this spring. After this it is time to go to study hall.

Only Jessa had band so everyone else had study hall. It was an unusually quiet study hall. Finally the bell rang and we could go home.

I don’t usually like Mondays, but this one wasn’t so bad. The end of one day and another isn’t very far away. Join us next time with the Roving Reporter.
