Easter Party

“It’s Easter, half day, and no school on Friday or Monday!” everyone cheered as we walked in the class room. The only bad news was everyone was confused about our different schedule because of the PTA program we were going to and having a half day. Instead of going to science first, we went to the program and then science for a half an hour only. Our schedule was so cramped that we had to go to math right after that. We filled our tummies and headed to social studies before we were able to have our Easter party. Our schedule was even more cramped that we couldn’t fit in spelling, reading, music, PE, or library. But I forgot the most important part about me being a reporter. I’m not telling you what I did in the classes, or at the program.

“WOW, OOOO, AHHHHH!” the students exclaimed as they all watched the amazing stunts the African Acrobats performed for a PTA program. The acrobats were very well trained, strong, and talented. They did human pyramids all the way to dancing. They were a team of 5 and all played a very important part in the acts they did.

Right as we walked into the classroom we gathered our things and left the class room to go to science and math. For science, we refreshed our memories with our work sheet yesterday and then we fed our minds with new knowledge about energies. We watched a movie on them and learned that there are many different types of energies. There is solar energy (sun energy), wind energy, and hydropower energy (water energy). As soon as we were finished with the movie we went right into it again with a book. The book made us think about how much we rely on any type of energy, some energies are nonrenewable so we are running out, and what new types of energy are we going to be using in the future. It also talked about how the five most important machines and how they helped make other machines. The five most important machines were: the wheel, the axel, the wedge, the screw, and the lever.

Everyone was all happy about Mrs. Mac telling us that for math we would be playing a game. Although, before they could cheer, they groaned first because she had to teach us how to subtract mixed numbers and burrowing mixed numbers. When subtracting and burrowing mixed numbers you need to change the fractions to equivalent fraction. For instance: 3 2/3–1 2/6’s equivalent fractions are 3 4/6–1 2/6. After figuring the equal fractions you simply subtract. 3 4/6–1 2/6= 2 2/6. 2 2/6 is not simplified, and that is the last step. 2 2/6 is equal to 2 1/2. The game we play clearly was to help us learn all the steps and was important not to skip any.

Having lunch before spelling was what we usually did so it was weird to have our tummies telling us we were hungry during math. The smell that came all the way down the hall told us we were having mashed potatoes. To make that even better we were served cream turkey, fruit, peanut butter cake and salad also. Everyone seemed happier when we went outside because it’s been awhile since we have had outside recess.

Before we were able to have an awesome Easter party we had to have social studies. Since we had a test yesterday, Mrs. Dux didn’t want to start a new chapter at the end of the week so we just did L to J and did a trivia. Most of all of our words were review since we only have one chapter left in our text book. For instance: Nobility and myth. Nobility is a high ranking social class. Myth is a legendary story passed down from culture to culture. The trivia was just for fun, to see how much you know in the world. It asked fun questions like what does LOL mean or WWW. LOL means laugh out loud and WWW means World Wide Web.

All of us were already happy since we had no homework in any subjects, but it made it even better when we were filled with junk food! One of our classmates hid the candy and gave us pop and pretzels, and another student gave us cupcakes, For the rest of study hall we all ate, talked, and then said our good-byes, for it was going to be a very long weekend.
