Kenning Wins State Proficiency

Three Receive State Degree

The 80th Nebraska FFA Convention was held April 2 – 4 in Lincoln, Nebraska at Cornhusker Motel, Pershing Auditorium, and East Campus. The theme for this year was "Live the Legacy."   Eighteen FFA members from the Fairbury FFA Chapter got to experience the different highlights of convention.    The members attended  different workshops put on by State and National Officers.

Seniors Danielle Kenning, Shaylin Likens, and Kirby Ruhnke  received their Nebraska State FFA Degrees.  They each had to have at least two years of records and fill out an application. 

Kenning, received first place in her Ag Sales, Placement proficiency.  She had to fill out an 10 page application over her agriculture job and conduct an interview.  Her application will not compete at National FFA Convention in the Fall. Dani was also selected as a top eight finalist with her State Star Degree.  

Ruhnke received a silver medal in Senior Public Speaking.  He developed a six to eight minute speech over his experiences in FFA.

State Degree Recipients

The Livestock Management team received a white in swine management, blue in beef management, red in dairy management, and white in poultry management.  The team consisted of Shaylin Likens, Kirby Ruhnke, Whitney Ehler, Danielle Kenning, Garrett Schlake, and Jake Immink.  

Kirby Ruhnke received a blue ribbon in Senior Livestock Selection.  They had to judge six classes and give 2 sets of oral reasons.   Other members of the Livestock Selection Team were  Ehler, Immink, and Danielle Kenning .

Ali Umland, Sophomore, received a blue ribbon in Ag Communications - Broadcasting.  Other members of the Ag Communications team were Mitchell Husa, Brandon Katz, and Jo Shinn.  

Members of the Farm Management team included Landon Schmidt, Garrett Schlake, Calvin Katz, and Colton Stone.  Schlake recived a blue ribbon.  

 Kirby Ruhnke also represented the Fairbury FFA in Honor Choir.   He was selected out of over 100 applicants.  This was the fourth year that Kirby was selected to the Nebraska State FFA Honor Choir.  

Garrett Schlake was selected to attend the Legislative Breakfast at the Cornhusker Motel.  They got to eat breakfast with many different legislators from across the State.

Members attending State Convention were Danielle Kenning ,Shaylin Likens, Kirby Ruhnke, Jake Immink, Whitney Ehler, Calvin Katz, Garrett Schlake, Colton Stone, Trevor Schlake, Brandon Katz, Ali Umland, Landon Schmidt, Kelsey Hill, Jo Shinn, Ethan Schroeder, Jake Melcher, Mitchell Husa, and Justin Sasse.
