April 18, 2008
by Zach
It all started Thursday April 17th when I woke up and realized I was roving reporter. So I took a shower and headed to school. Today was not just an ordinary day. We had a half day and we were to perform our group plays. We watched the vodcast also.
We started the day the same as every other day by taking lunch
count, and then saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Then Mrs. Dux read
aloud to us Leven Thumps. But that is when the day took a twist. We
then performed our group plays by starting with Mrs. Dux’s 6th
grade class.
We started with the performance of the Greek play Legends of the
Fall, which is a myth about a warrior named Odysseus and how he
scrambles to find a way to end a long war that has been raging
between his Greek army and the city of Troy. His bold gamble, using
a big wooden horse, looks like it has a chance of working. But will
the smart and beautiful Helen see through his tricks and destroy
the Greeks’ hop of success?
The second performance was done by Mrs. Hudson’s 6th grade class,
and it was called Speed. In this myth the men who fall in love with
a beautiful young woman named Atalanta must race her for her heart.
It’s no easy task, as Atalanta just happens to be the best runner
and hunter in the Greek world – and the price of defeat in a race
with her is death.
We watched the vodcast next. It has several interesting parts some
of which are: Spelling Tips, Tobacco Report, P & J Advice
Column, How to Become a Savvy Sevvy and the Hallway Traffic
Report.
Mrs. Hudson’s class did there last performance by performing Vanity
Fair. In this myth, the lives of a chatty forest spirit and a self
centered young man meet in the heart of a forest. The result is
filled with echoes, daffodil like flowers – and a stern warning
about the dangers of falling in love with yourself, or with someone
who is similarly vain.
The class then walked down to the lunchroom for the great lunch of
PIZZA HUT PIZZA. The cheesy melted goodness as you bite into it is
a world of taste sensation. We had inside recess due to the rain,
so we set up for our next Greek play, and then we goofed off.
After recess, Mrs. Dux’s class went on to perform the last
performance of the day. The Sound of Music Goes Underground is a
myth about a man named Orpheus who uses his legendary musical
skills to win the love of his life, Eurydice. After tragedy
strikes, though, Orpheus goes where no living man has gone before
in order to free his imprisoned wife. The place is the Underworld,
and the only weapon he carries is his music.
After all of the plays were performed, we moved the desks back into
their place. Mrs. Dux then continued reading Leven Thumps. When
school was dismissed everyone was excited because it was to be a
long and exciting weekend with no school on Friday or Monday.
