Music Students Enjoy Outstanding Contest
Musicians Earn 21 Superior Ratings

Fairbury High School Musicians had outstanding success at the recent District Music Contest, held at Fairbury High School on Thursday and Friday, April 17 and 18. A total of 8 schools participated in the Contest, which is run through the Nebraska School Activities Association. Fairbury students participated in 28 events, in large and small group entries and solos. Student musicians performed for a judge in solos and small groups, while the large groups performed for a panel of 3 judges. There were also audience members in attendance to hear the performances.
. Groups and Ensembles earning marks of Superior from the judges were: Concert Band, Crimson Elite Show Choir, Women's Choir, Men's Choir, Flute Quartet, Sax Quartet, Flute Quartet, Trumpet Duet. Mallet Duet, Mixed Duet, and Girls Duet. Vocal solos rated Superior were: , Briana Bedlan, Naomi Lutze, Taylor Muell, Tisha Osborne, and Kirby Ruhnke. Instumentalists earning Superior were: Heather Barber, piano; Kellan Garber, trumpet; Kenzie Helmink, timpani; Naomi Lutze, snare drum; and Garrett Schlake, saxophone. Groups earning an Excellent rating were: Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Clarinet Quartet, and Girls Duet. Vocal soloists Marisa Behrends, Kenzie Helmink, and Mary Lutze also received Excellent ratings.
