Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 9th. The
second graders from Central Elementary School will present the
program “The Littlest Reindeer.” Through the course of this musical
all will be made aware that everybody (big or little) has something
to offer in the quest to make Christmas magic really come true. The
program will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 beginning at 7:00

High School. Mrs. Riggins would like to request that known absences

HOLIDAY
ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMS & PARTIES
The next several weeks look to be quite busy for
Central Elementary students and staff as we prepare for the holiday
season and winter break. Central Elementary 2nd Grade students are
excitedly preparing for this year’s holiday music program to be
presented at the Bob and Wauneta Burkley Fine Arts Center on
Tuesday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of individual classroom holiday parties, our creative and
ambitious PTA volunteers have planned and organized a half-day full
of holiday activities, crafts, games and goodies for our students.
Our 7th annual “Santa’s Workshop” will take place during the
afternoon of Thursday, December 18th with students rotating with
staff among a series of activity stations.
As final preparations are being made, parents and families may be
contacted by organizers asking for assistance or support. When
contacted, please accept an opportunity to help out in some way.
Thank you!
HOLIDAY
GIFTS
Please be reminded that gifts presented to school
personnel are not required of students, nor are they encouraged.
Any gifts brought to school for teachers or staff would be
accepted, opened privately, and graciously acknowledged. Thank you
for your consideration.
SANTA’S
WORKSHOP – THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18th
Ho! Ho! Ho! Our children are truly excited to
participate in our third annual “Santa’s Workshop” activity day on
Thursday, December 18th from 12:45-3:00 in the afternoon. Many,
many parent volunteers have dedicated countless hours, supplies and
talents to make this event a tremendous success!
PTA CLASS
PICTURE OPPORTUNITY
Holly Troxel of Holly Troxel Photography will be
helping the PTA take professional class pictures on Tuesday,
January 13, 2009. We ask that you dress your child accordingly, as
these pictures will be used in the yearbook. Information about
ordering the professional class photos will be sent home at a later
date. All profits will be used by the PTA to continue providing
excellent programs and benefits for our students.
We will also be taking individual pictures of the students who did
not have a school picture taken in August. Those students who this
applies to will have the opportunity to purchase the pictures.
Also, the Yearbook Committee is still in need of pictures for the
yearbook. We are looking for pictures taken on field trips, class
parties, etc. Please burn pictures to a CD or make extra copies and
send them to school with your child marked "Yearbook Pictures". Any
questions, please contact Andrea Davis at 729-2604.
WINTER SPORT
CONCERNS
The Fairbury Jeffs would like to thank everyone for
their continued support of the athletic teams. Our teams really
enjoy having the positive support of all the fans at our games. As
we get closer to the winter sports season there are a few areas of
concern that need to be addressed. These concerns are primarily
addressed for the safety of all parties involved.
1. We usually have very large crowds at our home activities. We
really need to make a great attempt to not have fans leaving their
seats while live play is going on. The reason for this is that most
officials like and need to be "as wide as possible" as they travel
from one end of the gym to the other during a basketball game. This
means that they maybe running out of bounds where many of our fans
walk when they go to their seats. By waiting until a "dead ball" or
"time-out" it will significantly reduce that chance of a collision
happening and people will remain safe. This includes children,
students, as well as adults.
2. The second concern is that we have too many elementary students
that are not in the stands watching the game, nor are they being
supervised by their parents. This concern brings up a huge
liability factor in that we have a number of these students that
are "running" around the commons area and the hallway by the gym
playing tag or "horsing around". On most nights we have the upper
bleachers opened up and we supply super¬vision in that area for the
students from Jefferson and Central. We are asking that those
students stay in those bleachers or with their parents to watch and
cheer on the "Jeffs" and limit their time in the commons area.
3. The third area of concern is having people on the main playing
floor before, during or after the game. With the winter weather and
the use of salt on the sidewalks the salt gets tracked in on the
gym floor which causes damage. Weather carried in from snow or rain
also causes the floor to be slick and unsafe for the players.
The concerns listed above are all about liability. We need to make sure that we keep our activities and building safe for the players, students, parents and our guests.
We appreciate your continued support of the "Jeffs" and we are looking forward to a successful winter sports season.
