Dux's Diaries 2009

Madison's Podcast

Easter is here and spring is not here. It was cool and rainy on Thursday. Thursday we had a small Easter party and we got gum, cookies, and juice boxes. Thanks Mrs. Dux! It made the wetness and coldness a lot better. Last we all headed out to our first class.

Reading was exciting.  First, we started by people asking about how to Google Japanese American Soldiers in WWII.  Next, Mrs. Dux showed us on Google how to do it. Since we were on the internet there were 5th graders in Wahoo that had gone to the Apple store in Omaha. They learned podcasting from the experts at Apple.  Lastly, she told us that our assignment was to finish, “Under the Blood-Red-Sun” by the end of the weekend. After that we were to work on Vodcasts and our fractured fairy tale. Then we were off to our 1st block.

In science we first looked at a picture of different landforms and we had to decide which one was formed by a glacier. Furthermore the sand hills of Nebraska were formed by glaciers leaving behind sand that was melted off the sides. Last we talked about velocity and average speed of objects. After that is was time for math.

Quizzes, quizzes, and more quizzes, as you might guess we had a quiz in math. The quiz was about multiplying fractions. We had to finish it before class, and no one got it done so she just counted the ones we had done.

“Meatball Sandwich” is what we had for lunch on Thursday. By that time the rain had stopped and we could go outside but it still hadn’t warmed up.

After lunch we read “A Wrinkle in Time” followed up by a spelling test, it was really easy. Because everyone needed a little help in spelling, we had an open book spelling test!  That was a first.  Then we all went to P.E, where we did stations because it was wet outside. One station was to play bad mitten and another was the dreaded push-ups.  There were others too.

We got back from P.E. and we did an L to J quiz.   Then we headed to 3rd block, followed by checking papers in social studies and handing them in. Next, we watched a video on ancient Rome.  Did you know that during Rome’s golden age it ruled over almost all the area around Mediterranean Sea?

Finally in band we played songs on pages 129 to 134, followed up by study hall for about 15 minutes. Last we were so happy that it was Thursday because we didn’t have school on Friday.  So on that note, we ran out the door and were ready for the long Easter weekend!
