Friday, the last day of the week had finally arrived. This was not any ordinary Friday, it the last day of Homecoming week…Jeff Pride Day.  Crimson and gold were worn by students and teachers throughout the building.  As the 8:20 bell rang, students were already talking about going to the new football field.

At 8:30 we were off to reading class.  We discussed our group ideas for SNOOPS and prepared a plan for upcoming presentations. Mrs. Dux told us to organize our presentation, assign parts and prepare a script. Our group reviewed our ideas for SNOOPS and agreed upon naming our series, “Horse Sense”.   Time flew by and then it was language arts.

The class checked our spelling worksheet on morphographs.  Then we met with Mrs. Dux to share our ideas for SNOOPS and she shared some suggestions to improve our vodcast.  These suggestions were very helpful as we continued brainstorming ideas.  It was then time for science class.

In science, we used the scientific method to determine the density of three liquids.  The class measured to see which liquids, vegetable oil, Karo Syrup or baby oil had the greatest density. In reviewing our data we discovered that the Karo Syrup had the greatest density, then the vegetable oil and finally the baby oil was the least dense.  All of the hypothesizing made us hungry for lunch.

Turkey over whipped potatoes greeted us as we entered the lunchroom. We quickly picked up our trays, found a place to sit and inhaled our lunch.  Mrs. Hinks blew her whistle in the lunchroom to alert us that it was time for recess. The lunchroom became vacant as kids zoomed out to recess. Before long, the recess bell rang and we were off to social studies.

Carbon dating… Excavation Site… Domesticate… Agriculture… Technology… What do these words have in common? These words were all used as we checked our assignment on ancient cultures in our social studies class.  Next, we were headed to math.

Mrs. Mac helped us check our assignment on multiplying decimals and solving story problems. Finally, we had a clicker test.  Students who answered all of the problems correctly received two chocolate tootsie rolls.  It was then time for library in the media center.

Mrs. Stritzke provided a demonstration to the class on accessing the new online card catalog.  Students learned how to use the online card catalog and viewed the top 10 books that had recently been checked out.  She also allowed us to practice looking up new library books and then we were escorted to music.

Miss Rademacker read us a story about a young man who struggled throughout his entire childhood and encountered many people who treated him badly. This young man met a teacher, Mrs. Thompson, who also treated him badly.  She enjoyed giving him “F’s”. As the story continued, they spent more time together and a friendship developed. She realized he was a good kid who just needed some encouragement. She encouraged him to keep trying and gave him the confidence to strive to succeed.  As his journey through life continued, he eventually became a doctor. He kept in close contact with his teacher, Mrs. Thompson.  The inspiring story ended and Mrs. Dux led us back to class.

As the 1:50 bell rang for early dismissal, students were glad to start their weekend. Many were ready to attend the homecoming parade and were pumped to go to the new football field.  It was a crazy day, but it was a fun day too.  Go Jeffs…
