Tectonic Dessert
November 10, 2009
Fifth graders in Mrs. Christiansen's science classes were given a piece of wax paper with a glob of strawberry cake frosting to represent Earth’s magma. They were then given graham crackers to represent the continental tectonic plates.
Fruit roll-ups represented the oceanic plates. Dr. G helped us to model each of the different types of plate boundaries using the food items. We also modeled how mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes are formed. After making our structures, we had the most fun – eating them!!!
