Brrr!...predicted the weather. But, when I stepped off the bus, it wasn't cold on the walk into school. As I entered my homeroom, Mrs. McAllister gave me a thank you card for the candle warmer and candle I gave her for Christmas. After lunch count, everyone lined up for reading.
When everybody settled in at reading, a new student was in our room. He was moved into our classroom from a different one in 6th grade. We have been reading a book called "Anne Frank" and today we watched a few videos about it. Next, we will read a story that reflects the Holocaust. It was then time for spelling.
We played spelling basketball. The game is simple. Spell a word correctly then shoot for a point. If you misspell a word, you wait off to the side until somebody spells it right. Unfortunately, my team lost 4-1. Again, I got to stay in the same room for one more class.
Today in social studies, we made Canopic jars out of clay. A Canopic jar is one that ancient Egyptians used to store a mummy's internal organs. The lid of our jar could be shaped like a jackal, baboon, or falcon. I chose the jackal. Next was everybody's favorite time of day.
Dry beef, melted cheese, and pizza sauce started and finished the hexagonal pizza called the fiestada. When I was finished eating this yummy dish, I unpacked my things from my morning classes. The next thing I knew, recess was over. I wish we had more time for recess.
"Click, clack" was the sound of the scooter wheels in PE. First, we sat on our knees using our hands to move ourselves around. Second, we sat on our bottoms and moved forward. Then we switched to moving backward. Finally, we lay on our bellies and moved around. It really gave us a good workout.
In math, we got a refresher on exponents. On our worksheet, we wrote some out and solved problems about them. Next was science.
Lab technicians were the subject in science class. My definition of a lab technician is the person that does all the work. I was thinking ahead to band that Line 7 was the line that I was sure we were going to play.
When I got to band, I found out I was right. Another student switched from bells to drums today. When band was finished, I had just enough time in study hall to finish my math assignment.
I was relieved that the only homework I had to complete was a booklet in reading besides Roving Reporter. Sometimes, I felt like I was going to fall asleep because it was the first day back to school after Christmas break. All in all, I made it through the day and finished most of my homework at school. Happy New Year!
