7th Grade students learn about Cells
by Brooke McDowell
What is a mitochondria? What does it do? What is the nucleus? What kind of cells have a cell wall? Ask a 7th grade science student and they should be able to tell you.
Mrs. McDowell's life science class just finished studying about living things and cells. They learned about characteristics of living things and that one thing that all living things have is cells. When learning about cells, they studied the parts included, their function and then made their own cell models. The students were very creative making "storage sacks" to represent their vacuoles, CD's for nucleus' and filling the cells with cotton balls or feathers to represent the cytoplasm. They had a lot of fun and learned a lot too!
