Student Council Hosts Jr. Jeff Night

by Brooke McDowell

Student Council sponsored Jr. Jeff Night at the Fairbury Jeff varsity basketball games on Friday, January 15th against Auburn.  The event began in the afternoon with a pep rally for students grades 3 - 6 at Jefferson Elementary.  Student Council members visited Jefferson Elementary school and hosted a pep rally.  There they had a basketball relay, taught the students some cheers and informed the students about the rules for the Jr. Jeff Program.

25 students participated in the Jr. Jeff program during the girls and boys basketball games.  When they arrived they received a name tag and were escorted to the mezzanine area (upstairs) where they were able to make their own Jeff Pride Shirt.  The students showed off their spirit and artistic ability by decorating their shirts.

Then the students watched and cheered on the Lady Jeffs.  At half time the students went to the hallways to play some games and run off some steam.  When they returned they received a bag of popcorn and a bottle of water.

In between games, the students made posters and signs to hold up during the boys game.  Some wrote the numbers of their favorite players and some had clever sayings.  They enjoyed doing cheers and holding their signs during the game.

At half time of the boys game, they returned to the halls to play more games.  They enjoyed this time and returned to receive some cookies.

This was a free program sponsored by the Student Council.  Students received registration forms the week prior and needed to have returned them to the school to register.  They were then admitted into the game free, received a free tshirt and snacks.  We hope the students enjoyed their time, learned a little about basketball while sitting and watching the game and developed some Jeff Pride!  We hope to make this an annual event.
