Third Graders Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Third grade students celebrated learning about Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a writing activity. The students did a great job when they were given the opportunity to express their dreams for themselves, family and the world. These students have tons of great ideas and they need to be heard! No dream is too big to be achieved, and their teacher hopes all their dreams come true.  She knows they will work hard to achieve these dreams.

Preschool Celebrates the Season

This past week in Mrs. Stanton’s classroom, preschoolers were able to experience what it would be like to be at Santa’s workshop! They were busy making toys at the workshop, wrapping gifts they had built, making cookies and candy at Santa’s bake shop, decorating the tree, and writing letters they could mail to Santa. Other fun things we did this week included playing jingle bell music, fixing reindeer food, and creating our very own gingerbread houses! We ended our week with a holiday party, movie, and a cookie from the PTA.

Students Graphing Linear Equations

Students in Kristi Peterson’s algebra class and worked on graphing linear equations using the slope-intercept method. We placed a giant coordinate plane on the gym floor. This helps students see where they need to be on the graph. The activity involves cooperation and discussion. Plus, it is fun to do something different. What a great group of students! Thanks much to Coach Garfield and Coach Steinhoff for sharing the gym today! #Jeffpride

Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Important work takes time. Third graders at Jefferson are enjoying learning about Ancient Rome in Unit 4 of their new reading series, Amplify CKLS. They have learned that engineering and technology were just two of the great contributions the Romans gave to us that have impacted the world. Mrs. Shinn’s students had a couple of days before Christmas break and decided that since you can’t build Rome in a day, they would see how much they could build in two days. Are you familiar with the Coliseum, Circus Maximus and aqueducts?  Our third graders are, and they love to share what they have learned about Ancient Rome.

In 3rd grade when you study Roman history, it involves using plastic elephants and other figures to recreate the Punic Wars.
