Newton’s Three Laws of Motion

While studying Newton’s three laws of motion, students in Miss Feldkamp’s 8th grade science class designed and constructed balloon powered cars. Students were given a variety of supplies including tape, glue, cardboard, straws, popsicle sticks, wooden skewers, CD’s, etc. The objective was to build a balloon powered car for maximum speed and distance. Students did an excellent job and the results were impressive! One car traveled over 9 meters!

True Treasure Hunt

“The high school and 7th grade vocal music classes recently had a True Treasure Hunt. Instead of hunting for objects, they hunted for people who help make our school great! We wrote and delivered thank you notes to administrators, teachers, and support staff. Anyone who helps bring Jeff Pride!
Thanks to everyone at Fairbury Public Schools for all you do to help our students grow and succeed! Thanks to all the parents and families for supporting students! And thanks for your continued support of the music department!”

Elephant’s Toothpaste

Mrs. E. Winter’s and Ms. Feldkamp’s 7th and 8th grade science students got to experience the classic demonstration of Elephant’s Toothpaste to illustrate an exothermic reaction. It took some tweaking throughout the day, but by the last class the result was quite impressive!

Fairbury students at the Doane Vocal Festival

Garret Ragland and Michaela Buchli attended the Doane Vocal Festival at Doane University this past Sunday and Monday, January 8th & 9th! DVF is an annual event that brings together high school students from around the state of Nebraska. For two days, the almost 70 members of the Festival Honor Choir sang great music, listened to wonderful concerts, and were able to spend time with other enthusiastic musicians their age.
This year’s honor choir was conducted by world-renowned composer, Jake Runestad. He brought several of his own pieces for the students to perform. They also composed a brand new piece as a choir during the festival!
Monday night, they presented a concert along with the Doane Choir and several high school soloists that were selected as part of a solo competition. It was a great finish to a fun festival! Thanks Garret and Michaela for bringing the Jeff Pride and representing the Fairbury music department so well!

Human Notes on a Musical Staff

The vocal music class at Jefferson played a game to practice identifying note names. Students had to work together and use their bodies to spell out 3 and 4-letter words on a giant music staff. In preparation for this game, students came up with words using just the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, and coding them as notes on a staff.

Small But Mighty

Spanish Club is a small but mighty club at Fairbury High School. Our membership of 22 is proud to be able to help our community in a variety of ways.

In October we partnered with Hope Crisis Center by putting out yard signs for Domestic Violence Awareness month. Members also lead a collection drive during this month. During the 2 week drive, items were collected and given to Hope Crisis to give to victims of domestic violence in need of assistance.

In December, the members also continued the tradition of helping a family in need. We selected a family to “adopt” through the Blue Valley program. Members purchased gifts locally and wrapping paper for a Jefferson county family.

Spanish Club also a sponsors a child through Compassion International. Our sponsorship provides educational opportunities and health care for a 6 year-old child in Bolivia.

The members work together to raise funds by working the concession stand and sponsoring a Junior High Dance.
