Lady Jeffs Basketball Team Giving Back!

The mission of the Lady Jeffs basketball team is to give the chance for student-athletes to learn to become responsible, respectful and successful young adults through the game of basketball.  At a recent team meal, the members of the Fairbury Lady Jeffs Basketball team took this to heart and made two blankets that they are donating to the local Hope Crisis Center.  They presented the blankets to Carmen Hinman February 4, 2016.  The Hope Crisis Center is Blanketsa non-profit organization committed to empowering victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  They are planning on auctioning off the blankets at their fundraiser in November.

Macy Ohlde Earns Softball All-State Honorable Mention Honors in Class C

Macy Ohlde, sophomore, earned Softball All-State Honorable Mention in both the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald papers this season.  Macy is a 2-year letter-winner and plays both first base and pitcher for the Jeffs.  Off-season batting practice propelled Macy’s batting average from a .310 just a year ago to a .437 this year including 2 homeruns at the Crete Tournament this season. “The hard work and dedication to hitting in the off-season is proof that if you are willing to put in the time to getting better at something, it can happen!”

2015 Girls Golf

The 2015 girls golf season was full of adjustments that led to big improvements.

The girls team was made up of a junior, four sophomores, and a freshman. They are very young but are building a foundation for future years.

“This year the team bonded, and really got to know each other,” Evie Schwab ‘19 said.

The first invite of the year was held in Beatrice where the team finished sixth. The Seward invite was the largest and toughest meet of the year, and the girls finished ninth. At our home Fairbury invite the girls finished fifth.

“I took a lot of steps forward this year. At our home Invite I was 15 strokes better than what I had been doing, and our team made a lot of improvements by conference,” Madi Black ‘17 said.

The Crete Invite was another tough meet, and the team came in eighth place. After Crete, the Jeff traveled to the Pius Invite, Conference and Districts wound up their season, where they came in seventh place as a team.

Freshman, Sara Mitchel was close to medalling at the Seward invite, and also improved through the season. “I think the team’s technique made a lot of changes that were for the better and that will hopefully carry into next year’s season.”
